Travel Program Main Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town

Welcome at Cape Town International Airport (CPT). From there, we will accompany you to the 4x4 vehicle rental company. After a brief introduction, once you have your vehicle there is a 35-minute drive to your guesthouse in Somerset West. During a shopping trip at the nearby mall later that afternoon, you will have the opportunity to buy supplies and then set up your vehicle. Dinner and final information about the upcoming trip will be provided at the restaurant.

Day 2: Heading up the West Coast

Departure at 8:00 AM. We will drive north on the N7, making several short stops along the way. At the Org de Rac Winery in Piketberg, we will make a brief stop for refreshments. We will then continue to Namaqualand National Park for our first camping by the ocean.

Day 3: 4x4 Stretch to Spoegrivier

We start the day with a walk along the beach of the cold Atlantic. Then we continue north on a sandy 4x4 route through the national park stopping at some sights along the way. Our campsite awaits us is the heart of the Namaqualand under a star filled sky.

Distance: 120 km / Driving time: 4.5 hours

Day 4: Heading North

The day begins with a relaxed breakfast before we set off. We continue north, making a stop in Springbok to stock up on food and supplies. In the late afternoon, we arrive at our campsite in the Richtersveld region.

Distance: 200 km / Driving time: 3.5 hours

Day 5: Spectacular route along the Richtersveld

We start the day with coffee and rusks and brief for the day. The journey takes us north from Lekkersing to Sendelingsdrift. We will camp under the open sky by the banks of the cool  Oranje River.

Day 6: The Richtersveld

We explore the breathtaking area of Richtersveld with exciting 4x4 routes and passes.

Richtersveld National Park is one of the most isolated and vast regions in the country. This remote desert landscape offers an adventure like no other, with endless expanses, rugged mountains, and unique flora and fauna.

Traveling through Richtersveld National Park is a true adventure, where you find yourself far from civilization, surrounded by the raw beauty of nature. The untouched wilderness and stunning landscapes make every journey an unforgettable experience.

Day 7: Welcome to Namibia and the road to Luderitz

After a leisurely coffee and rusks, we continue our journey and cross over into Namibia. We drive to Lüderitz, located on the west coast of Namibia, making a stop over in Kolmanskop, a former German settlement. In Ludertiz we spend the night in a guesthouse and enjoy a local meal at a traditional restaurant.

Day 8: Heading North

The day begins with a guesthouse breakfast and a briefing while watching the ocean. We explore Lüderitz and its harbor before heading to our campsite in the region of Helmeringshausen. Relaxation is guaranteed. Those who wish can cool off in the pool and then enjoy the sunset drive where we shall enjoy a refreshing wine tasting.

Day 9: Heading East

From Helmeringshausen, our journey takes us past Keetmanshoop to stock up on supplies and fuel. Our campsite is located in a Quiver Tree forrest and fossil site. Camping under the stars - another highlight of the day.

Day 10: Heading to the KgalagadiTransfrontier Park

Our journey continues east. We drive to Mata Mata (border crossing to South Africa) along gravel roads through small settlements and make a stop in Gochas. Our camp is located in the Kgalagadi National Park, where we can observe wildlife and listen to their sounds as darkness falls.

Distance: 245 km / Driving time: 3.5 hours

Day 11: Exploring the Kgalagadi

After breakfast, we have a leisurely three-hour drive ahead of us, during which we hope to see lions, leopards, cheetahs, and many antelopes. Halfway, we will take a short lunch break to enjoy nature. We will spend the night at the Twee Rivieren Camp and leave the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park the next day.

Day 12: Off to the Karoo

Departure in the early morning with long, straight stretches on the tar road through Upington. Here we shall stock up on supplies and fuel. We continue further south through the vast areas of the Karoo—nothing but open space all around! Our campsite is in the heart of the Karoo.

Day 13: Tankwa National Park awaits us

The Tankwa National Park in the Karoo offers breathtaking landscapes and untouched nature. Experience the unique flora and fauna of the region on a drive through the vast plains and mountains. Observe rare animal species and enjoy the clear starry sky in one of the most remote areas of South Africa. An unforgettable adventure awaits you in Tankwa National Park!

Day 14: Heading South direction Somerset West

We drive south towards Villiersdorp, a charming town in the heart of the wine region. We continue through the picturesque landscape to Grabouw, known for its fruit orchards and stunning mountain panoramas. Finally, we reach Somerset West, a vibrant town at the foot of the Helderberg (starting point).

Upon arriving at the lodge, we unload our vehicles and have time to relax. Afterwards, we will have a joint dinner while reflecting on our experiences.

Day 15: Departure back to Zürich

The day is open to unpack the vehicle and possibly explore the charm of Cape Town. Vehicles need to be returned by latest 15:00. Departure to Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and flight back to Zurich (night flight).

Day 16: Heading to Cape town

Departure at 10:00 AM to Cape Town, where we will return our vehicles. We continue our exploration in a minivan, visiting the Waterfront in Cape Town and cruising along Chapman’s Peak Drive. On the way back to the guesthouse, we stop and enjoy dinner at a restaurant.

Day 17: Exploring the Winelands

On the last day, we take you to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, where you will participate in a guided tour of the vineyards. Departure at 8:30 AM. We will visit the Hartenberg and Grande Provence wineries for lunch or a picknick.

Departure to Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and flight back to Zurich (night flight).
