THE AUTUMN PACK 2017

The season is changing and with that comes the time for transitional wines. While it might be warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt during the day, at night there's a chill in the air and a sweater or jacket will probably be called for.

Which wines work best when the air is starting to get crisp yet it's not truly cold yet?

Well, you can hold off on the heavy reds and the mulled spice wines for now, but you might want to switch up from your summer Pinot Grigios and Sauvignon Blancs to some cooler weather wines. Looking for something to sip by the fire place? Consider a spicy Shiraz/Mouvedre or a Bordeaux Style Blend. I know I have a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend in this selection, but hey, I'm always the eternal optimist and I'm still hoping for a sunny autumn day. Enjoy! :-)

Journey's End The Huntsman 2015, W.O. Stellenbosch
70% Shiraz, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Viognier (SMV)

1811 marked the first ever hunt in the Western Cape with hounds imported from Gloucestershire, UK. The Cape Hunt remains the oldest Hunt in the New World.
Beautiful dark ruby red colour with hints of purple. Floral aromatics of violets and lavender with hints of spice. Juicy layers of red and dark berries coming through on the palate, with elegant tannins on the finish. Drink now and until 2020.

Saronsberg Provenance Seismic Rooi 2013, W.O. Tulbagh
35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot, 18% Merlot, 14% Malbec
The Saronsberg Provenance Rooi has an incredible list of accolades to recommend it, including more than one inclusion in the Top 100 SA Wines. It is a fabulous wine to haul out when you really want to please your guests. Holding a delightfully dark hue, this wine suggests red berry and cassis flavours, intertwined with oak. It shows tannins with good grip and is well-balanced, leading to a full-bodied, graceful finish.

Villiera Down to Earth White 2016, W.O. Stellenbosch
90% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Semillon
The wine is lively and fresh with a hint of passion fruit and gooseberries from the Sauvignon Blanc. The Semillon contributes the more herbaceous, grassy character as well as complexity to the palate. It also contributes to the balance and makes you reach for another glass. This wine is easy to drink now, although with proper storage it will keep for a further two years. Due to limited use of additives the wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Ernie Els Sauvignon Blanc 2016 - Western Cape
100% Sauvignon Blanc

The 2016 Ernie Els Sauvignon Blanc explodes on the nose with guava, lime, kiwi fruit and
gooseberries. A rather concentrated vintage with a tangy acidity, there is good contrast of
tropical fruit and a pebbly texture. Hints of green pepper and figs offer complexity to fruit
pastels on a long, soft finish. An exotic wine that already shows its rainbow of bright colours.

04_PACK SPRING 17.jpg

THE SPRING PACK 2017

Wine is a product like no other, it tells the whole story of a region, its climate, the lives of its inhabitants, their taste and their ingenuity. Each wine is different and you will surely be gratified with our Spring selection.

Ernie Els Merlot 2014 - Stellenbosch
The 2014 Ernie Els Merlot abounds with ripe plums, figs and cherry. It is soft and juicy on the entry with a delicate floral expression that follows from nose to palate. Medium bodied and fine, an earthy complexity adds depth, while notes of Swiss chocolate give a luxurious feel. The firm tannins are balanced by a red-berry crunch and a long savoury finish.

Dornier Pinotage 2014 - Stellenbosch
This wine shows black cherry, dark berry and cassis on the nose, with hints of tobacco and nutmeg. The palate shops upfront flavours of ripe plum, vanilla bean, violets and bramble. The wine has a full palate with an elegant freshness and finishes with a complex chalky tannin profile.

Flagstone Word Of Mouth Viognier 2016 - Western Cape
This is a wonderful expression of the little-known grape, Viognier. Aromas of fresh, ripe watermelon and juicy peaches are encased in a delicate hint of spice on the palate. As a medium bodied wine, it can easily be described as fresh yet also complex as it has a beautiful, full flavoured finish.
Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways to spread news and share a discovery, and it’s how we would like Flagstone’s Viognier to become more widely known. A wine of such exciting substance that you can’t help but tell your friends about it.
In the glass, this wine is a brilliant white gold colour with aromas of water melon and peaches and a floral hint. Summer fruit aromas follow through on the palate with a hint of spiciness. Medium bodied with a fresh acidity and lingering after taste.
