MEET WESTERN CAPE WINES

We would like to thank you all for your presence!

We are excited to announce that we have rebranded! - Launch Event 11TH MARCH 2017

Hi everyone  :-)

We'll be rolling out a new branding effort to change our name to ‘Western Cape Wines’, and to communicate the changes in our business approach and introduce some exciting new wineries we’ll be partnering with.
Over the last few months we've poured our hearts and souls into this rebranding. We have engaged Marc Sapetti, a branding and design expert to help us through this process of transforming our branding into WESTERN CAPE WINES
Along with this transformation, we will be hosting a ‘MEET WESTERN CAPE WINES’ event where wines from all of our boutique wineries will be available for you to taste, AND, our hosts, Pino and Jetta from Restaurant Milchsüdi in Cham, will be supplying some tasty treats with true South African hospitality.
We look forward to seeing you at our launch event and take you on an exciting adventure through the winelands of the Cape.
Yours in wine,
Trevor & Esthi

Trevor's tip - How to keep a wine

Re-cork the wine after every glass pour. Keep the open wine bottle out of light and stored under room temperature. In most cases a refrigerator goes a long way to keeping wine fresh longer; even red wines. When stored at colder temperatures the chemical processes slow down, including the process of oxidation that takes place when wine is exposed to oxygen. Wine stored by cork inside the fridge will stay relatively fresh for up to 3-5 days.

Wine Pairing  - September 16th 2016

What better than a great selection of cheeses to try some wines? We will hold a Wine Pairing event on the 5th September at the Tessendorf's in Merlischachen.

We hope to see you there!

Wine tasting - 16 September 2016

Private food and wine pairing evening for Marc and friends.

When appropriately paired, wine and food have the ability to enhance each other’s flavours, making them more pronounced, and render the entire taste experience a more satisfying and enjoyable one.

Exploring South Africa, a sumptuous mix of white, red and sweet wine will be tasted, including South Africa’s signature Chenin Blanc grape with its fresh crisp young zesty finish. You might think it odd to pick out South African Chenin rather than Chenin Blanc in general but I do think the wines are distinctive, particularly when it comes to the crisper styles which are much zestier than they tend to be in France’s Loire Valley.

We welcomed Marc’s friends with grilled salmon and cod fish combined with a Post House Blueish White blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, closely followed by a Mooiplaas Chenin Blanc Bush Vines with typical beeswax and dried peach on the nose, with good weight and balance on the palate.

Guests then experienced the delicious wafting aromas of a typical South African boerewors braai (boerewors means farmer's sausage) and enjoyed this with a Post House Black Mail Merlot which offers a heady, ripe fruit nose with subtle hints of mint. On the palate it is initially sweet, with massive fruit flavours, but then counters with a crisp burst of acidity that peels the fruit away to reveal a layer of fine-grained tannin.  The finish is long, fragrant and very well balanced.  Absolutely delicious with boerewors!

We then steadily made our way closer to the main course by pairing grilled rib eye steak with a Mooiplaas Tabakland Cabernet Sauvignon. A classic style Cellar Reserve wine with upfront red and dark fruit, Christmas cake, sweet spice and hints of Fynbos aromas. Full bodied with soft and well integrated tannins and a lasting aftertaste.  Excellent with grilled or roast sirloin, rump & fillet of beef & venison

And then for the grand finale, we served a dish of Zebra Venison prepared in a traditional South African Potjie.  In South Africa, a potjiekos, literally translated "small pot food", is a dish prepared outdoors and cooked in a round, cast iron, three-legged pot over an open fire. This was served and paired with a Mooiplaas Rosalind Bordeaux style blend and a Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz. Wow, what an experience for our Swiss guests who had never tasted Zebra before – but then who has?

Ian then prepared a unique South African dessert, a DON PEDRO.  Don Pedro is a grown up milkshake usually served in a wine glass made from either a whiskey or liqueur such as Amarula, Kahlua, or Frangelico mixed with ice cream and a tot of cream to make it easy to drink with a straw.

Does this sound like fun? Could you imagine arranging a similar event for your friends and family? If so, send us an email at hello@westerncapewines.ch to arrange your own personal wine and food pairing evening.
